Europe suffers from an important truck driver shortage and an ageing workforce. Up to 425,000 truck driver positions, or 10% of the total, remained unfilled in 2021 and the total shortage in Europe could top two million by 2026 if no action is taken.
This study by Ricardo Energy & Environment highlights the benefits for truck drivers’ working conditions of driving in zero-emission trucks: from convenient operational conditions and attractive features of vehicles to better work-life balance and career attractiveness for both young men and young women. Based on interviews and surveys to truck drivers, the study shows that zero-emission trucks can help the transport sector to address the critical challenge of truck driver shortage.
The study was presented during a webinar that you can watch again here.
