The European Clean Trucking Alliance (ECTA) publishes its priorities for the upcoming review of the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), a key piece of legislation for accelerating the transition to zero-emission road freight in Europe.

To ensure AFIR delivers the charging and refuelling infrastructure needed by the sector, ECTA calls for four key priorities:

  1. Keep the agreed AFIR targets for heavy-duty vehicles.
  2. Expand the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) to include depot charging.
  3. Prepare for the integration of Megawatt Charging Systems (MCS) by prioritising deployment along traffic-dense routesand addressing grid connection capacity.
  4. Expand AFIR coverage to include key logistics nodes.

With the review approaching, maintaining ambition and ensuring effective implementation will be essential to support Europe’s transport competitiveness, energy security, and climate goals.
