The European Clean Trucking Alliance (ECTA) welcomes the European Commission’s proposed targeted amendment to the Eurovignette Directive. Allowing Member States to fully exempt zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles (ZEVs) from road charges until 30 June 2031 will further improve their economic viability and strengthen the polluter pays principle.

“Quentin Donnadille, Policy Advisor at CLECAT, says: Under current rules, EU States like Germany would need to end full toll exemption for ZEVs by the end of 2025. By extending it until 2030, the Commission proposal provides essential support for companies to accelerate the shift to zero-emission freight transport.”

The Commission proposal sends a strong signal, providing the investment certainty the freight sector needs. This is a crucial step in helping companies transition their fleets to ZEVs.

Jürgen Albersmann, CEO of Contargo GmbH & Co. KG, and spokesperson for ECTA, concludes: Contargo welcomes the Commission proposal and urges lawmakers to swiftly reach an agreement. This is essential to send a strong signal to the industry, provide investment certainty, and accelerate the transition to clean freight transport across Europe.”
